Six Day Berlin provides a great spectacle and an occasion not to be missed if you are a race cycling fan.

Blending novelty and tradition, Six Day Berlin seeks to enhance the visitors' experience with the application.

The Stakeholder's need is to create a tool that keep engagement at the venue and in-beteween events

Apps such as Giro d'Italia, Rolland Garros, that just like Six Days last a few days a year, were studied for benchmarking

According to Capgemini Report, 56% of sports fans has a positive knock off effect in terms of overall engagement with the event

287 respondents to the survey sent out through the stakeholder's mailing list helped us discover the user's attitude for cycling and their behaviour during the event

Qualitative research consisted in 20 interviews

Users were mainly concearned with info about the real-time scheduling of the races and understanding the rules.

But a pattern emerged referring to a sense of community

The power of the racers is striking. The awesome atmosphere just pulled me in. Six Day hasn’t got a spirit of meeting old & new friends.

Traditional Klaus

🏛 likes classical things

I am not new to Six Day but everytime I am taken away from the event. I want to have more info about what is happening on the track

User Personas

Although very different, Klaus and Sarah share the passion for cycling.

Their needs for innovation, community and knowledge matches the business' need to keep users engaged at the venue and in-between events

4 baseline sections were identified and two experimental sections were deployed for concept testing

Ideas were prioritzed into an impact/effort matrix, and with the MoScoW techniques and later discussed with the Stakeholder

Once the interaction flows were designed, Material design inspired wireframes were sketched for testing.

Testing grey boxes is as challenging as riding a bike without pedals, it makes you aware of pitfalls and painpoints

Where is the searchbar?

  • Feedback on Rules and Explenation were so positive that IA was rethought to be reachable at any point in the app
  • Filter chips grant easy access
  • Users were looking for a searchbar

Is it a forum or a chat for expert?

  • The community section had a misleading so it was changed to "Local"

We were provided Six Day website and a Styleguide for print media as style reference.

Some design element undergone a lift to ensure both consistency with the identity of the brand and improve accessibility

🌈 Mint green and yellow were used to create a good contrast for buttons and chips

🔵 Out of the gradient, three monochromes were used to create hyerarchy among components

🖋 Futura was used for the topapp in its italic variant to give a sense of dinamicity.

The final design

  • lets users relate to the established Six Day event.
  • shows the quality of the product
  • reflects a style that is suitable for different target audiences
  • aims towards the new direction Six Day wants to head to as a company
